Looking for Solace – by Stephanie Grant

For all who need to say goodbye to those they loved…

Looking for Solace

She said to write it down now,

whilst emotions were raw with pain,

Numbness,

Dull numb pain,

Switch into zombie mode,

Is it too difficult to do?

Work on through pain,

Slice it down the middle,

Part it again,

And again,

Dismantle it into tiny shreds,

Fling it back to nature,

With ashes,

I will spread.

Tuck up precious memories into my soul.

They will stay with me always,

So close in life,

I hear a joke, a caution, a smile giggle,

I know exactly what they will say and think,

About everything I do,

Every last step of my way.

I wrote this poem after multiple deaths in my family. I’m pleased to share it here alongside my original painting of iris flowers in the hope they bring solace to those who seek it.
