Fossils: Jul 2026 creative writing prompt

As the old quote says, there’s nothing new under the sun. That’s certainly true of the Teesdale Writers creative writing challenge for July, Fossils, but if you dig the idea, with a bit of stony determination, it shouldn’t be too hard to come up with a solid foundation for a new story or poem.

Of course, with a ‘boulder’ approach, you might use the word fossils to refer to older people, or those whose outlook seems set in stone.

This is another optional creative writing challenge, so if you don’t think this topic rocks, there’s no need to be petrified, because we won’t have a bone to pick with you – just write about something else.

If you’re a member of Teesdale Writers, please send in any writing for feedback (whether on the topic of Fossils, or any other piece you prefer) by the end of July.
