“Only 24 hours left!”: Jun 2026 creative writing prompt

There’s not a minute to lose with the Teesdale Writers creative writing challenge for June: “Only 24 hours left!”

The urgency of a race against time or ‘ticking clock’ scenario is a good way to add tension to your story. If your character can’t [reach their destination, solve the clue, find the hidden item, or convince someone to do something] by this time tomorrow… what will happen?

This would make a good science fiction or magical realism writing prompt: imagine you’re the only person who knows the world has only one day left. What would you do?

Or maybe having only 24 hours left could be a good thing. Perhaps your character only has to put up with circumstances such as an unwelcome visitor or unpleasant situation for one more day… or so they think, anyway.

As always, this creative writing challenge is optional, but if you’d like to give it a try, the good news is that you don’t only have 24 hours left – you have a whole month!

If you’re a member of Teesdale Writers, please send in your writing for feedback (whether on the topic of “Only 24 hours left!”, or any other piece you prefer) by the end of June.
